Possible Story

  • I want to tell the story from the perspective of high school students of what it is like to learn in a classroom where they are given a choice and voice in their learning experience through authentic learning experiences. This will be a story about “what they do” and their “discovery” on their learning journey

  • The purpose is to show that learning can be purposeful, meaningful and student-led.

  • Story Core: Students learn through planning, creating, researching, and building their own way.

  • Problem: Engaging students in learning

  • Transformation: How students engage in learning when they are in control (use interviews and examples)

  • Solution: Students engaged in their own process enjoy their learning experiences more and thrive

  • Mapping: I am probably going to create a chart with my storyboard to try to figure out where I am going to align the different elements of my story.

Higher Purpose

This story can be used to help other educators see that allowing their students to have a choice in their learning is an easy way for their students to become actively engaged in the process.

Content and Technology Standards

  • 1.1D: Technology Operations

  • 1.2C: Intellectual Property

  • 1.3: Knowledge Constructor

  • 1.4: Innovative Designer

  • 1.6: Creative Communicator

  • 1.7.C: Project Teams

  • CC.1.4: Writing for different purposes and audiences

  • CC.1.5: Speaking and Listening

Tools

I am planning on using my video camera, microphones, scripting, conducting interviews with students and educators, and either Final Cut Pro or Shotcut to edit my digital story. I am also going to try and have some student soundtracking created to use in my project. I can then add my story to my YouTube channel and my website.

Assessment

I normally use rubrics to asses digital stories in my classroom.
